FRANCE 1812

RIFLEMAN OF THE NEUCHATEL BATTALION  

In  the 1806 the principality of Neuchatel came annex to the France and shortly afterwards, the 30 March of the same year, its crown was delivered to the Napoleonic marshal Berthier. to the politics turning made follows May 11 , 1807 an imperial decree that ordered the infantry battalion creation to the commands of Jean Henri from Bosset, an original official of Neuchatel.

Always for imperial decree, but August 27 , 1808, it was constituted an artilleryman company from putting beside to the unit precedent.

The riflemen of the Neuchatel battalion descended for the first time in field in the April of the 1809, during the campaign against the coalition wing culminated in the big victory of Wagram.

In the April 1810 were sent in Spagna where, after different skirmishes with the local rebels, they made part of the army that faced up the duke of Wellington on the Portuguese high ground of Bussaco.

In the 1812 left Spain to go in Russia, from where only 13 officials and seven privates made return.

Battalion was reconstructed in the 1813.

But in the July of the 1814 came definitively loose following the abdication of Napoleon.

UNIFORM

The infantrymen of the battalion of Neuchatel was nicknamed "canary-coloured" for the colour of the theirs uniform. 

They wore in fact a living yellow jacket, with bib, cuff, collar and red cuffs. Jacket was closed by two file of white buttons. trousers were white, while the spat is possible to be white or black. Epaulet was white, so as the ornament and the long plume of the shako. 

Only the officials were foreseen the degrees and ornament of silvery colour. 

The uniform of the hoers reproduced substantially that of the riflemen, unless for the epaulet and the red ornament. in the protect and in the gala occasion, the members of this company wore a colback of black hair. For when regards the artillerymen, the official uniform includes a blue jacket, with cords of the shako and epaulet ate into. in the case of the championed of the artillery train, the tissue trousers were replaced trousers d of overlaped skin by boots.
